I’ve decided to start a little series on an “Insiders Look,” sort of a Behind The Wedding Videography set of articles. I come across couples that are weary of wedding videography pricing, practices, and professionals in general all too often. I’d like to re-educate and ease their minds by giving a behind the scenes take on being a wedding videographer. What does it take? Why does it cost so much? What is a DSLR? These, and many more questions like them shall be answered!!
LET'S START WITH AN INSIDERS LOOK ON THE COST...
This is a rather simple concept if you don’t over think it, and put yourself into the shoes of a business professional. I like to explain it with the 3 E’s
1. EXPERIENCE
Shooting for 10-12 hours a day can be exhausting for ANYONE. But Hiring a professional videographer will GUARANTEE the experience needed to make every shot perfect during that 10-12 hour day with two 10 minute bathroom breaks.
2.EQUIPMENT
To stay relevant and provide you with the best image quality that technology can create, wedding videographers must invest in new equipment – up to $10,000 per year!
3.EDITING
After the joy and excitement of the actual wedding day are over, your videographers work is just beginning. It can take anywhere from 4-10 months to create your video. HD file sizes are HUGE with the best quality, so you are paying your videographer for those following months. In the end, however, you receive a Cinematic Masterpiece that is priceless.
So there you have it – the REAL reason it costs a pretty penny to hire a Professional Wedding Videographer. No, they are not making numbers up…they actually have a plan. And to be fair – Photographers tend to be in the same ball park – a little less time on the editing side – but they do spend a few months preparing your images for books, prints, etc.
I know it’s hard to purchase something with no physical guarantee. This is why it is VERY important that you find and meet with your videographer early on. You can be sure that you mesh in style, personality, and price
